So of course I haven't heard anything about my recent submissions but...my poetry professor decided to go over the mechanics of making submissions in class last week...just out of the blue. So I felt like my urge to submit was confirmed in a way by spontaneously receiving some pointers. I mentioned what I've been sending as a cover letter and she said it was nice and brief. She said don't mention you're a student and don't go into an explanation of the pieces.
She said that sometimes if you don't have other publications to mention in the letter, the editor may assume that you are someone they should already just know. Like I'm sure Billy Collins doesn't submit his poetry with a list of publications. I don't think she was serious, but it was a nice thought to squelch that fear of not having previous publications to mention. I have a feeling some are coming my way though :)

Simultaneous Submission
Well...since Bat City said simultaneous submissions are okay and Ploughshares also said the same...I just submitted "Cracking Up" and "A Foster Mother's Child" to Ploughshares! Yeah so I know this one is a waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy long shot but I'm on a roll.
I wonder if it will get easier to press send as I go along.

First Submission!
Wow! It was hard to press send on that email to the Bat City Review! I just submitted my poems, "A Foster Mother's Child" and "Cracking Up."
I'm not sure that my subject matter or my voice matches with this publication but I gave it a shot anyway. WOW! I can't believe I did that.
Okay...so I can totally accept rejection. I'll update when I hear something back. I have a feeling rejection will be swift lol.
Who's next?

Blog Purpose
So this is just a blog (well, not JUST a blog) to keep track of my submissions to poetry journals and/or online publications. I just decided to start trying.
So...I submit. Let's see what comes of this.
